I was watching a baking competition show the other night when one of the chefs chose to use sugared fruit on her dish. The outcome was so elegant-looking, that I wanted to know how to do it myself. I set out to figure out how and it's super easy! Here's how: SUPPLIES
1 packet unflavored gelatin 1/4 cup of cold water Granulated sugar Wire rack Parchment or wax paper Assorted fruit, cleaned and dried
In a microwave-safe bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for one minute. Pop the bowl into the microwave and stir after each 30 second interval until the gelatin is completely dissolved and slightly frothy. This should take about a minute or two.
Brush gelatin on your fruit and set it on the wire rack. Sprinkle it with sugar and let it dry completely. Note: I didn't have a brush handy, so I tossed my fruit in some gelatin (see video) and then placed it on my wire rack. Whatever works, right?
And that's it! Simple to do, but very elegant and sophisticated. What a great way to finish a cake!
Tip: Keep your sugared fruit out of the refrigerator as the sugar will dissolve.
